Dr. Rosephanye Powell has been hailed as one of America’s premier women composers of choral music. Dr. Powell serves as a Charles W. Barkley Endowed Professor and Professor of Voice at Auburn University. Recent commission and premiere highlights include: ‘When I Sing’ (SSA), commissioned by American Composers Forum CHORALQUEST series, as the 2016-17 Composer-in-Residence; ‘GospelTrinity’ (SATB), commissioned by the Brehm Center for Worship, Theology and the Arts/Fuller Theological Seminary (CA); ‘Phenomenal Woman’, composed for MUSE: Cincinnati’s Women’s Chorus; ‘Friendship’ composed in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Jacksonville Children's Chorus; With What Shall I Come (SATB), composed for the St. Olaf Choir celebration of the 25th anniversary of Dr. Anton Armstrong, conductor, and premiered at Carnegie Hall; ‘Why We Sing’ (TTBB), composed for the 2014-2015 touring season of Cantus Vocal Ensemble; ‘Bright is the Ring of Words’ (TTBB), composed in celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the University of Pittsburgh Men's Glee Club; ‘The Lord Is My Light and My Salvation’ (SATB), composed for the NCMEA 2014 North Carolina Honors Chorus; ‘The Cry of Jeremiah’, a four-movement sacred work for narrator, chorus, organ and orchestra, commissioned by the American Guild of Organists, premiered at the Lincoln Center, NY; ‘I Want to Die While You Love Me’ (SSAA), composed for the ACDA 2013 Women’s Choirs Commission Consortium.

Dr. Powell travels the country and internationally serving as a composer-in-residence, workshop clinician, conductor, and adjudicator for solo vocal competitions/auditions, honor choirs, choral workshops and festivals. Recent commitments include the Conductor-Composer-in-Residence for the Boston Children’s Chorus (MA); Festival Disney Choral Festival, clinician and adjudicator; Hillsborough County SSA Honor Choir (FL), conductor; OMEA All-State High School Women's Choir, conductor; KMEA All-State High School Women’s Choir, conductor; North Carolina MEA High School SATB Honor Choir, conductor; Georgia All-State Senior Women Chorus, conductor; the Middle Tennessee Vocal Association Treble Honor Choir (Nashville), conductor; the World Choir Games (Cincinnati, OH), adjudicator; Melbourne International Singers Festival (AUS), conductor-composer-in-residence; the Italian Feder Gospel Choirs Workshop (Milan, Italy), conductor-composer-in-residence. Dr. Powell holds degrees from The Florida State University (D.M.), Westminster Choir College (M.M), and Alabama State University (B.M.E).
