Bruce Xu is 15 years old, a rising junior at the high school program of University of North Carolina School of the Arts, studying organ performance with Dr. Timothy Olsen. Bruce serves as Music Intern at Augsburg Lutheran Church in Winston-Salem, NC. He is also in the Cantata Singers of UNCSA.
He is from Sloatsburg, NY and was introduced to the organ and the Protestant Church in his local Sloatsburg UMC, where he began hymn playing, and became Christian; he also got baptized there. Within a month, he began organ lessons with Jimrae Lenser at age 9, and then went on to study with Craig Williams. Since then, Bruce uncovered his passion in playing the pipe organ, and credits God for giving him the gift of being able to play the organ.
In the Spring/Summer of 2017, Bruce won 1st prize in six organ competitions: UNCSA/Salem College High School Organ Festival & Competition; Greater Columbia AGO Chapter Young Organist Competition; East Carolina University Young Artist Organ Competition; L. Cameron Johnson Memorial Organ Competition; AGO Quimby/RCYO Chapter Competition Atlanta, GA; and AGO Quimby/RCYO Regional Competition Jacksonville, FL.
Bruce has a twin brother Reilly who is currently studying in The Juilliard School’s Pre-College program; a fine organist as well. Aside from organ, Bruce enjoys playing soccer.
Bruce is thankful for his parents, all types of supporters, and God.
